It was his 13th and final time opening the new academic year as president, and Dr. Dana Mohler-Faria had much to share.

During the annual opening day breakfast, held in a packed ECC cafeteria, the president looked back for a few moments, but spent a good deal of his address looking forward.

'Standout' Steps Up

The Brockton Enterprise has reported that Rob Ruggiero, a standout last year with the Bears football squad as a senior, has been signed as a free-agent by the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. The defensive lineman played three seasons for Springfield College before transferring to BSU.

Ruggiero attended the Colts’ rookie mini-camp in May. He got the call from the team while working out at the Tinsley Center.

Throwback… Way Back

One hundred fifty eight years ago, 10 men and 9 women entered what was then Bridgewater State Normal School. The class, the 50th to enter Bridgewater since the school’s founding in 1840, was small, even by the standards of the time.

BSU in the News

Dr. Laura Ramsey, assistant professor of psychology, has an article in Psychology of Women Quarterly. It contains the results of a study showing that men who objectify their female partners are more likely to coerce them into having sex.

In the article’s abstract, Dr. Ramsey (with co-author Tiffany Holt) summed up the research findings:

BSU comes to the Cape beginning in January

News & Events

Students who live on or near Cape Cod will have the opportunity to stay local and graduate from Bridgewater State University, thanks to the opening in January of a new facility in Yarmouth.

As part of the university’s mission, and spurred by President Dana Mohler-Faria who hails from the Cape, the new location off Route 28 will offer master’s degrees, bachelor’s degree completion in partnership with Cape Cod Community College, certificate and non-credit programs.
