Native Tongue

News & Events

Four students this summer found themselves not only diving into the Dead Sea, but plunging headfirst into a foreign culture as part of BSU's Arabic Immersion Summer Program held at Yarmouk University in Jordan.

Designed by the Middle Eastern Studies Program, the six-week course helps students enhance their Arabic skills, both written and oral, while they absorb Jordan's people and culture.

Seizing the Moment (Multimedia)

News & Events

Speakers at the Opening Day convocation held in the Campus Center auditorium gave hundreds of incoming students similar advice: cherish your time at BSU and experience all the university has to offer.

Taking the podium to offer words of wisdom, President Dana Molher-Faria told the Class of 2016 to savor their first year at BSU. He told the students to seize challenging opportunities that will help them grow academically and personally, and prepare them for life outside college.

Connecting Campus

News & Events

Dr. Paula Krebs comes to Bridgewater State University from the President's Office at Wheaton College, where she helped establish partnerships with other colleges, the community, and local government.

It makes sense, then, that the founding dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences has ambitions at BSU to strengthen campus and community connections, break down disciplinary barriers, and create a unified vision for the college.

Field Day

News & Events

The Bridgewater Bears football team hit Swenson Field last week, not for a game, but to lead "Kindergarten Kickoff," a day of sports and fun held for kids entering Bridgewater Elementary School.

Nearly 100 players and coaches spent the morning teaching more than 100 children some football skills, such as throwing and kicking the ball, through fun activities. The kids also had the opportunity to create their own touchdown dances and meet Bears' mascot, Bristaco.

Mid-Year Symposium

News & Events

The Mid-Year Symposium - a showcase of student research and creative work for students in 100- and 200-level courses - will be held Monday, Dec. 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the second floor of the Rondileau Campus Center. Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research, students from all majors are encouraged to participate individually or in groups to present in a variety of formats such as academic poster, formal talk, video, performance, art display or slide presentation.

Airborne

News & Events

Civil Air Patrol (CAP) has approved a charter for its newest Senior Squadron at Bridgewater State University. The CAP BSU Squadron will be registered as MA-005, and is the only college-affiliated CAP squadron in New England.

CAP was founded in 1941 as the volunteer civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force, and its squadrons represent and serve their home community, state, region, and the nation through three primary missions: emergency services, aerospace education, and cadet programs.

Inside the Piano, Outside the Box

News & Events

Combining daring programming with an engaging performance style, Barbara Lieurance, a member of piano faculty at BSU, will bring pianistic virtuosity of an entirely new kind to the concert hall. In this program, "Barbara Lieurance: Inside the Piano, Outside the Box," she champions the compositional tour-de-force "Rhapsodies" by C. Curtis-Smith - the first piece ever written for bowed piano - along with a new commission inspired by the Rhapsodies by Canadian composer John Oliver. Other music includes the jazzy Russian virtuosity of Gubaidulina and the beautiful melodies of Brahms.
