As for the drumming that marks the powwow, she added, “That’s the heartbeat, the beat of Mother Earth.”

Cold, Hard Lessons

News & Events

Students once again took to the great outdoors to call attention to the problem of homelessness.

Bearing the brunt of a long, cold week, sleeping in tents and eating from a mock soup kitchen, the students learned firsthand how difficult life on the streets can be. While living outside, they still attended classes and did their homework, only without the aid of electronics. Meanwhile, each day brought a speaker to address issues affecting the homeless.

It’s always a safe bet for any student to partake of the full slate of offerings during his or her college years. “What really helped me is the discipline that comes with being a student-athlete,” said Gayle Cameron, ’78, one of the state’s gaming commissioners, a panel charged with awarding three gaming licenses.
