Book Clubs
Study & Research (S & R) organizes Book Clubs for the Targeted English 101 courses.

The Director and the GAs serve as the liaison to Faculty teaching these courses. The Director provides periodic training and any necessary support to book club facilitators.

What are Book Clubs exactly?

  • They meet weekly in various locations at the Academic Achievement Center.

  • Are connected to a Targeted ENGL 101 Class, and students earn 1 credit hour for their participation.

  • Are facilitated by volunteers who represent a variety of positions and departments across campus.

  • Consist of a book discussion and a brief written journal entry.

Study Groups
Along with the commitment to attend Book Clubs, students in Targeted ENGL 101 sections also attend Study Groups to build a strong foundation for a successful academic career at BSC. These groups are small and consist of 5-6 students.  In addition, they:

  • Meet weekly at the Academic Achievement Center.

  • Are facilitated by graduate assistants from Learning Assistance Services in Study and Research.

  • Provide suggestions and assistance regarding various aspects of college study.
