Types of Support Offered Through Tutoring Central

Tutors are given on a first come first serve basis to the extent  that tutors are available in each subject area. Tutoring Central specializes in supporting courses that fall in the CORE curriculum and some beginning level courses within a major. Tutoring Central does not support Writing I & II or math courses. For assistance with these subjects contact the Writing Studio or Mathematics Services.

One-on-One and Small Group Content Tutoring
Students requesting assistance are matched with an appropriate tutor or added to a small group setting depending on need and availability. Click on Requesting a Tutor to start the process.

Academic Coaches
Students are matched with an Academic Coach when it is determined that overall study strategies, course organization and/or test preparation presents more of a problem than course content. Academic Coaches are proficient in a variety of foundation level courses but do not provide content tutoring as the main focus of their work with a student. Click Requesting a Tutor to get started.

Language Coaches
Because academic English can present as much difficulty as course content for non-native English speaking students, students can be matched with a Language Coach to begin strengthening this most important skill. Language Coaches are learning, or have learned  a language that is non-native to them, understand language structure, and be able to explain the idioms and implied assumptions of written English. Of course if you're just confused in general about the academic challenges coming your way, you can fill out the Intake Assessment and Referral Form, make an appointment  and come in and talk about it. We're always ready to help you identify what your academic dilemma might be. Don't worry alone, stop by!
