Message From the Chairperson

The Department of Accounting & Finance offers rigorous and structured programs designed to prepare our students for challenging careers.

The Accounting concentration prepares students for a variety of positions leading to management level careers in corporate and public accounting, auditing and taxation. This concentration will also assist in preparing students for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam or the Certified Management Accounting (CMA) exam.

Our students are in high demand by local and regional firms and are actively recruited.  Recently, several national, big-four CPA firms have instituted formalized recruiting arrangements with our program.

Internships are available through several sources, including a structured paid internship program recently established with Putnam Investments.

Bridgewater students have won recognition for repeatedly winning top honors in the highly competitive Massachusetts Society of CPAs statewide essay contest.  Bridgewater State College students have won 30 out of the 42 awards presented over the past 14 years.

Our Accounting program is 150-hour compliant and meets all requirements to sit for the CPA examination in Massachusetts.  Recently, the Board of Higher Education in Massachusetts, approved our proposal for a ten-course master's degree (M.S.M.) with an Accounting concentration.  This master's degree will be part of an integrated BS/MS program, allowing our students to earn both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in five years.

Because our programs are rigorous and demanding, students are expected to be prepared to work hard.

The Finance Concentration prepares students for positions in banking, investments, financial planning, cash management and international finance in both public and private institutions. This concentration will also assist in preparing students for professional certifications such as the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Prospective students can find out more about our undergrad and graduate programs by contacting the Office of Admissions.
