The Adrian Rondileau Award for
Professional Achievement
and Community Service
The 2011 Recipient - Robin Ryan
Thomas '90
Robin Ryan Thomas '90 (front row left) with
other alumni award recipients.
Robin Ryan
Thomas graduated from Bridgewater in 1990
with a degree in political science and worked for a number of years
for a large financial institution, moving up the ranks to the
position of executive assistant to the chief financial officer.
Disillusioned with the corporate world and committed to making a
difference, Robin began volunteering time to Unicef - planting
gardens, picking up trash, painting buildings, whatever needed to be
done. Robin believes passionately that it is our responsibility to
give back to our communities whenever possible, and she has spent a
lifetime in service of her community, finding purpose and joy along
the way.
In 1992, Robin
married William Thomas Jr., '92, and the couple began to raise their
family. In 1999, the family moved to Bridgewater where Robin - who
had previously taught religious education in South Weymouth -
followed her passion to teach at Saint Thomas Aquinas, educating
children for the past 12 years. Unable to pursue work outside the
home due to an earlier injury, Robin threw herself into her
volunteer work, soliciting donations for the Dana Farber Cancer
Institute and driving patients to and from Boston for treatment.
Since 2007, Robin
has worked with the Bridgewater Girl Scouts, first as a Brownie
leader and later as town coordinator for the products and cookies.
She helps coordinate the Cookies for a Cause campaign, a
collaboration between the Girl Scouts and the U.S. military. Through
this initiative, scouts not only collect and send thousands of boxes
of cookies to the men and women serving in the military, it also
inspires young women to understand the importance of becoming
involved in worthwhile community service projects.
