OUR MISSION:

The mission of The College of Education and Allied Studies (CEAS) is to prepare professionals to function effectively within a society influenced by diversity and accelerated change.

The College of Education and Allied Studies is comprised of five academic departments (Counselor Education, Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Special Education and Communication Disorders, Movement Arts, Health Promotion and Leisure Studies and Secondary Education and Professional Programs), the Office of Licensure and Field Experience, the Center for PreK-12 Educational Outreach and the Office of the Dean. Founded by Horace Mann in 1840 as the first permanently sited teacher education program in the country, educator preparation is at the core of our School and University. As we grew, programs were developed addressing other areas of human service. With the goal of providing Southeastern Massachusetts with high quality programs leading to degrees, licensures and for professional development, The College of Education and Allied Studies at Bridgewater State University is a vital contributor to the dynamic growth and success of our region.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS:

Four of the College of Education and Allied Studies academic departments offer undergraduate programs: Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Special Education and Communication Disorders, Movement Arts, Health Promotion and Leisure Studies and Secondary Education and Professional Programs. Offerings are focused towards the preparation of professionals practiced in their discipline and committed to life-long learning.

GRADUATE AND POST-BACCALAUREATE PROGRAMS:

All five College of Education and Allied Studies departments offer graduate programs. National accreditation is either currently held or being sought for all programs for which it is available. Students are prepared to assume professional positions and provide leadership to their colleagues and communities.

THE GROWTH OF THE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR:

"The Growth of the Professional Educator" is the conceptual framework that guides what we think, say and do regarding the preparation of teachers, educational administrators and academic support personnel. First adopted in 1994, revised in 2000 and again in 2005, the document is a living testament to the School's Educator Preparation program growth and development.

BSU teacher candidates wishing to conduct prepractica and practicum placements within the Bridgewater-Raynham school district or the New Bedford school district are asked to complete the CORI and/or DSS Record Check forms linked below and bring the completed form(s) and a government issued picture ID to Hart Hall, Room 124 for verification and submission to the B-R and New Bedford school districts.
