Emergency Procedures Checklist for Campus Community Members

All accidents should be immediately reported to the Campus Police.  The Campus Police will coordinate all efforts to provide police and medical assistance.

The official reporting of accidents will be completed by Campus Police.  The official University report will be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of Administration and Finance within forty-eight hours immediately following an accident.

The release of information concerning accidents to any outside agency or office will be coordinated by the Office of Administration and Finance.  If any request for information about an accident is received by any Department, that request should be directed to the Vice-President for Administration & Finance.

 

Athletic Trip Emergencies 1) Call the BSU Police at 508-531-1212; collect, if necessary. Give exact location and nature of problem.
2) The police dispatcher will give immediate instructions, OR
3) Call back within 30 minutes to receive any instructions.

 

Bomb Threat 1) Get as much information as possible about the reported location of the bomb, the caller him/herself, etc. If available, fill out BSU Police "Bomb Threat Checklist."
2) Call 911 (or 531-6111 from a TDD [Telecommunications Device for Deaf or Hearing-impaired Persons]).
3) Be available to meet with responding officers.

 

Criminal/Suspicious Activity 1) Call 911 (or 531-6111 from a TDD), OR
2) Call from one of the several "blue light" emergency phones located
throughout the campus.
3) Give exact location and description of the activity in question.

 

Disturbances/Assaults 1) Call 911 (or 531-6111 from a TDD), OR
2) Call from one of the several "blue light" emergency phones located throughout the campus.
3) Give exact location and description of problem.

 

Elevators; Persons Trapped 1) Call 911 (or 531-6111 from a TDD).
2) The police will notify Facilities/Residence Life/elevator company
depending on location and time of day.
3) Stay near the elevator to reassure those within.

 

Fire/Gas Leak/Hazardous Materials 1) Call 911 (or 531-6111 from a TDD).
2) Proceed 100 feet from the building. Assist disabled persons. Do not use elevators.
3) Stand by to update officers and receive instructions.

          

Medical/Psychiatric
Emergencies

 

1) Call (or summon another person to call) 911 (or 531-6111 from a TDD).
2) Stay with the injured/ill/distressed person.
3) Administer first aid until the police arrive.
4) Stand by for responding officers.

 

Motor Vehicle Accidents 1) Call 911 (or 531-6111 from a TDD).
2) Give exact location and whether injury exists.

 

Motor Vehicle Lockouts 1) Go to the BSU Police Station.
2) See the police dispatcher for assistance.

 

Motor Vehicle Jump-Starts 1) Have your identification handy.
2) Go to the BSU Police Station.
3) See the police dispatcher for assistance.

 

Power Outages 1) Call 531-1212 (or 531-6111 from a TDD).
2) The police will notify the Facilities Department, Power Plant, and/or the Residence Life and Housing Office as necessary and appropriate.

    

Sexual Assault (Victim)
 

1) Go to a safe place.
2) Don't wash, douche, or change clothes before getting help.
3) Seek medical attention. 
4) Consider reporting the incident to the police, or inform a friend or counselor.

 

Sexual Assault (Friend of Victim) 1) Assist victim to a safe place.
2) Assist in obtaining medical help.
3) Be a good listener.  Support victim’s decisions.

 

Sexual Assault (Administrator or Faculty Member) 1) Counsel victim about available resources.
2) Notify victim of his or her right to report the incident to police.
3) Complete anonymous Sexual Assault Reporting Form and return to BSU Police Chief.
 

 

Threatening/Harassing Calls or E-Mail 1) Save voice mail/e-mail messages.
2) Call the BSU Police at 531-1212 (or 531-6111 from a TDD).  
3) Be prepared to meet with an officer.
