Faculty Advocate Profile

Nikki Freeburg, PhD

I am currently an Assistant Professor and the Director of Fieldwork in the Department of Counselor Education here at BSU. My undergraduate, master’s, and doctorate were all attained in the great state of Idaho. My doctoral studies were focused on Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Supervision, and Clinical Counseling. My teaching load is focused on Research, Psychological Assessment, and Creativity in Counseling. I have been very active at the national level organizations of my profession and since relocating to Massachusetts I have become engaged in state associations such as the Massachusetts Mental Health Counseling Association, Massachusetts Rhode Island Counselor Education Association, and the newly developed Rhode Island Massachusetts Counseling Association.

One of my greatest passions is acting as a bridge between my students and the professional organizations that lead, shape, and motivates my profession. On a more broad scope, I am active in promoting transparency in higher education pedagogy through my professional presentations and workshops that encourage others to hone their teaching craft. On the BSU campus I serve on the CART, ATP, and FAN boards and have attained grants to support my scholarly writing, professional presentations, and an imbedded course grant to facilitate engaged learning focused on social justice.

Having lived my entire life in Idaho it was a huge adventure to move my family over 3,000 miles away from all of our family and friends. Thankfully, with the help of FAN, I have established a new family of colleagues and mentors. I have realized that the more connected I am to my campus colleagues, and active in different BSU committees, the more satisfied and confident I am with my own work. Bridgewater State University is brimming with fantastic programs and networking opportunities which clearly highlights the value this institution places on quality educators.
