Description: This project is transforming the previous 455-car parking lot into a 4-acre green space with walkways from the Underpass to the Moakley Center and Crimson Hall. Bicycle lanes will be provided, new lighting, and informal gathering spaces. East Campus Drive will be permanently closed to vehicular traffic, except for emergency vehicles. The 2nd phase to University Park, will replace the remaining portion of East Campus Drive, replace the remaining portion with additional walkways, planters, site lighting, and landscaping.
Status: This project is currently in the construction phase. Underground conduit, concrete, and manholes for electrical is complete; stormwater area has been rough-graded; drainage piping delivered; light pole bases installed; temporary walkway is in place; Underpass has been reopened for use; temporary directional signage has been installed around University Park site; the new walkways are under construction, concrete is poured, pavers to be installed; and final grading and a majority of planting in October 2012. Construction on this project started in May 2012 and is anticipated to be complete by the end of October 2012.
