West Campus Parking Lot Renovation  (Chapel and Science Lots)

Designer:  Nitsch Engineering, Inc. and Horsley Witten Group

General Contractor:  Lawrence-Lynch Corp.

Description:  This project consisted of the reconfiguration of the Chapel and Science Parking Lots.  This project also included a new access from Plymouth Street and reconfigured access from Park Avenue, improved pedestrian and bicycle safety, and new parking and walkway lighting.   The new West Campus Parking Lot provides an equal number of parking spaces as the Chapel and Science Parking Lots previously did.  As the layout for this new parking lot and the pedestrian walkways have changed quite a bit, please use caution when first using this new area. Also, as this new parking lot can now be accessed from Plymouth Street, please note that the new entrance is right turn in and right turn out only. All users are asked to be aware of the new patterns of traffic for both vehicles and pedestrians and be patient as we all acclimate to this new parking lot.

Unlike our other parking lots on campus, the new West Campus Parking Lot is using the most advanced and environmentally responsible storm water management practices. BSU is using this parking lot as a classroom. This project was initiated as a pilot project within the Taunton River Watershed Management Plan. The site is equipped with monitoring equipment to teach students, staff, faculty, and visitors about the combined science, technology, and engineering at the site, and to help inform policies that protect our region's waters. In the near future, signs explaining the technology will be posted for users' information.

Status:  Construction on this project has been completed.  The new West Campus Parking Lot and the Underpass was re-opened on Monday, August 27, 2012.
