Thomas Maccarone (1995)

Thomas MaccaroneThomas Maccarone graduated from Providence College with a bachelor's degree in Physics. He then went on to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, earning his Masters Degree in Natural Science.

Thomas began his teaching career in 1966 at Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, MA, where he remained for approximately three years. From 1969 to 2002, he taught at Swampscott High School. Thomas concurrently taught at at North Shore Community College from 1984-1994. He currently teaches science at Bishop Fenwick HS in Peabody.

Thomas' academic interests include mentoring new physics teachers and developing new physics demonstrations using both high- and low-tech materials

Special Honors:

  • Tfas instructor for Texas Instruments (Tfas means Technology for all students)
  • Curriculum Director for Science in Swampscott
  • Teacher of the Year in Swampscott, 1996
  • Janet Guernsey Award from the New England Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers for "Outstanding Contributions to Physics Education in New England," 1997
  • Physics Teaching Resource Agent(PTRA) since 1987 (one of 125 nationwide). Presented over 50 physics workshops to teachers nationally. Co-authored "The Role of Physics in Teaching Chemistry" workshop Manual for the AAPT/PTRA program.
