George P. Duane"Teaching is not a job, it’s a way of life. I’m still doing it and loving it one day at a time!"

George Duane graduated from Framingham State College with a B.A. in Biology before continuing to the University of Oklahoma for an MNS in Earth Sciences. Most of his course work and conference activity has centered around marine themes and the ocean. He has presented workshops locally, nationally, and internationally, focusing on beach sand and the ocean.

George spends his summers engaged in educational endeavors on a variety of topics. He has developed and written a few workshops and lessons, including such titles as Beach in a Bag, What’s in a Beach?, Alphabet Science, and Multilingual Science. He enjoys such nature-oriented activities as camping, hiking, and gardening.

After 29 years as a classroom teacher, George has recently assumed the position of K-8 Science Curriculum Resource Specialist in the Framingham Public School System.

  • Nominated to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 1996 and 1998
  • MAURY Project Fellowship at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1994 to 1996, and Peer Trainer from 1994 to 1997
  • Named Outstanding Science Teacher of Middlesex County by the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers in 1994
  • Inducted into the Massachusetts Science Teachers Hall of Fame in 1994
  • Named National Marine Educator of the Year in 1994
  • Named Marine Educator of the Year in a Classroom Setting in 1993
  • Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award from Framingham State College in 1993
  • Science Fellow at the Massachusetts Teachers Academy from 1992 to 1993
  • MME Annual Award of Distinction in 1991
  • Top Ten Teacher Award at Framingham High School from 1983 to 1992 and from 1995 to 1996
