Professional Position: Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Hobbies/interests: I am interested in living history and am a civil war re-enactor in a Union Artillery Unit.
Why you are involved with POE:  I think that the POE program provides an excellent opportunity for faculty to connect with students in a meaningful way outside of the classroom.
Who is your biggest role model, and why: I don't think I have one role model.  I try to learn something new from each person I meet and model the best I see in people's personality, character, and ambitions in my life.
Who has had the biggest impact on your life, and why:  Both personally and professionally, my parents have had the biggest impact on my life.  They taught me that I could do anything that "I put my mind to."  They encouraged me and helped me build self-confidence so that I believe I can tackle anything.  Professionally, Professor Terry Neal also had a big impact on my life.  When I would have argued that I had no intention of becoming a teacher, Professor Neal, a mathematics professor at a community college I attended, saw the qualities of a good teacher and encouraged me to consider education as a career.
Piece of advice for new students:  Take advantage of every opportunity to do your best.  Don't be afraid to ask for help.  Learn from everyone that you meet.

Office Location: Harrington Hall, Room 103J
Office Hours):

Professional Position: Assistant Professor and Chairperson, Accounting & Finance Department
Hobbies/interests:
Logic/Word Puzzles, Arts & Crafts, Board Games, Guitar Lessons, Church/Community Involvement, Politics
Why you are involved with POE:
As an undergraduate student, I myself was a low-income, minority, first-in-my-family college student. As such, I had limited information on what to expect in a college environment. And when I arrived on campus, I did not have someone to guide me through career- and life-altering decisions. Fortunately, I knew what path I wanted to take and so I was able to succeed in my chosen field. However, I can assist any student and help them avoid common pitfalls, then the mentoring process will prove valuable.
Who is your biggest role model, and why:
Nelson Mandela is my biggest role model because he did not allow negative circumstances to limit his potential. Instead, he mastered his environment to become one of the most powerful and beloved leaders in a country that once prided itself on racism and degradation of the human spirit.
Piece of advice for new students:
Don't waste a moment & Half of knowledge is knowing where to find information
Who has been the biggest impact in your life, and why?: My mother had the biggest impact on my life. Although she had limited education, she always valued knowledge and encouraged me to excel. In addition, my mother was the most genuinely, loving person; she was the "neighborhood mother" to many children. She was the central matriarch of our immediate family and the one on whom our extended family relied.
Favorite Quote: "Not to know is bad, not to want to know is worse." Also, "Half of knowledge is knowing where to find it." These are two of my favorite quotes.
