The major responsibility of the Faculty Associate for Service Learning is to promote and facilitate the enhancement of student learning through service and community involvement.

The Faculty Associate is a full-time member of the Bridgewater State University faculty and normally serves a two-year term. It is the duty of the Faculty Associate to organize the agenda for the Service Learning Advisory Board and prioritize the projects of the board. It is also the duty of the Faculty Associate to recruit members of the Board and call regular meetings. The work of the Faculty Associate will be guided by the Board.

The Faculty Associate works cooperatively with the Community Service Office and its director and staff. The Faculty Associate sits on the Community Service Advisory Board, and the Director of Community Service is invited to serve on the Service Learning Advisory Board.

The Faculty Associate maintains the Service Learning website, updated with interesting resources and stimulating visuals. The examples of faculty projects should be rotated on a yearly basis in order to give more faculty exposure for their service learning work.

It is the responsibility of the Faculty Associate to review the final reports of previous years to familiarize themselves with the goals of the previous groups. Under guidance of the Advisory Board, the Faculty Associate plans the priorities and submits them to the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs. A final report is filed at the end of the year discussing the past year's achievements and recommendations for next year. The Faculty Associate meets with the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs to discuss the year and plan for the future.

It is recommended that Faculty Associates remain on the Service Learning Advisory Board for at least one year after the end of their term. A copy of the end-of-the-year report and the daily log should be forwarded to the next Faculty Associate for Service Learning.
