Dr. Marilyn Barry
Trustee (2010-present)

Dr. Marilyn White Barry, a native of Holbrook, is a graduate of the class of 1958 at Bridgewater State University. After teaching first grade in the Weymouth Public Schools and becoming the mother of two sons, she left teaching to raise her family. In 1966 she received a fellowship from Boston University to study for a master's degree in audiology, speech pathology, brain aphasia and teaching, and then went on to earn an Ed.D. in learning disabilities in 1974.

Bridgewater, her alma mater, appointed her to the faculty in 1974 as an assistant professor of special education. In addition to teaching, she was actively involved in professional organizations and was one of the original movers of Special Education and Chapter 766 in Massachusetts.

She became chairperson of the department in 1978 and served in that position for nine years. In 1987, Dr. Barry was appointed the first woman Dean of the Graduate School at the college, a position she held for eleven years until retiring from the college in 1999.

Dr. Barry is one of the college's most generous benefactors and continues to be actively involved as a trustee of the Bridgewater State College Foundation and as a member of the "Three Pillars of Excellence Campaign" steering committee.
