Music

windEnsemble1.jpgThe Bridgewater State University Wind Ensemble provides a quality musical experience for both non-music majors and music majors, alike.  Any student with sufficient skill on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument can become a member of the Wind Ensemble regardless of their major.  The only requirement for membership is a desire to make music at the highest possible level, and a willingness to share that music with others in the ensemble and audiences throughout the area.  The Wind Ensemble gives two formal concerts each semester.  There is no audition required to join the ensemble, and the course may be repeated for credit.

The ensemble performs a variety of both classic and contemporary wind literature.  Their concerts often feature BSU faculty members and students as soloists.  Literature is selected to encompass standards of the wind band repertoire including music of Holst, Grainger, Sousa, and Alfred Reed.  The ensemble is also committed to the performance of local, regional, and world premiers of compositions written for the wind band. Examples of our recent repertoire include:

  • Chester - William Schuman
  • Der Traum des Oenghus - Rolf Rudin
  • The Divine Comedy - Robert W. Smith
  • English Folk Song Suite - Ralph Vaughan Williams windEnsemble2.jpg
  • Fantasy for Electric Guitar and Wind
