Keith March-Mistler, ’07, has come full circle in the field of education.

As a student at BSU, he worked as an orientation leader, before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in art with a concentration in graphic design.

Mr. March-Mistler is now an art teacher at Burlington High School, and now feels the same thrill he once did as an orientation leader helping his students prepare for the transition to college. This year is special, however: nine of his students will be attending his alma mater in the fall.

“I did not get a teaching degree from BSU, but I found my experiences to be especially helpful in training me to be an educator,” he said. “I look back at my fantastic teachers at BSU and the skills that they taught me in writing, public speaking, history, and of course in my major, art.”

As a former orientation leader he previously welcomed new students to BSU.

“I absolutely loved getting those incoming freshmen students – their excitement is unmatched,” he said.

Now he has the opportunity again to watch the enthusiasm his students demonstrate while choosing a college.

“I try to give juniors and seniors the skills to help them succeed in college life and beyond,” said Mr. March-Mistler. “When my students tell me they are going to BSU, you can just hear the excitement in their voices.”

He feels that his involvement at BSU better equipped him for his current career at Burlington High School.

“I think one of BSU's strengths is its promotion of diversity,” he said. “Bridgewater, to me, really celebrated and accepted people from all walks of life. I find that my experiences there have shaped me to become a better person.” (Story by student Caitlin Seddon, University News)
