Cold, Hard Lessons

News & Events

Students once again took to the great outdoors to call attention to the problem of homelessness.

Bearing the brunt of a long, cold week, sleeping in tents and eating from a mock soup kitchen, the students learned firsthand how difficult life on the streets can be. While living outside, they still attended classes and did their homework, only without the aid of electronics. Meanwhile, each day brought a speaker to address issues affecting the homeless.

Hear from some of the participants in the video below.

Safe Bet

News & Events

It’s always a safe bet for any student to partake of the full slate of offerings during his or her college years. For one alumna, her time at Bridgewater allowed her to develop a host of skills, in and out of the classroom, that helped her career, making her today one of the leading players in guiding casino gaming in Massachusetts.

“What really helped me is the discipline that comes with being a student-athlete,” said Gayle Cameron, ’78, one of the state’s gaming commissioners, a panel charged with awarding three gaming licenses.

High Achievers

News & Events

In school, as in life, it pays to shoot for the moon.

For Jeremy Foote, ’14, that moon happens to be a little farther away than the one you think of first. His is one of the moons in a ring around Saturn. And getting a NASA space grant to study one of those rings this semester, has been like playing in the big leagues.

“For me, NASA is the NFL or the MLB of the scientific community, and what person would not want that chance,” said the BSU senior.

News & Events

Akec Khoc Aciew, ambassador to the United States from the Republic of South Sudan, the world’s newest nation, visited campus and told the audience assembled in the Rondileau Campus Center about his people’s long road to freedom. “My country, in its efforts to achieve independence, suffered many hardships but there is euphoria today among the people of South Sudan who finally enjoy freedom and democracy,” he said.
