Hollywood Bound

In a packed campus center ballroom, BSU's fifth annual Campus MovieFest Finale premiered sixteen of the university's tops student films, three of which will go on to represent the university at CMF Hollywood in June. [br][br]The three winning films off to Hollywood are: "I Love You, Pizza" (Best Comedy), "The Frame" (Best Drama), and "Heretic" (Best Picture). Those films will compete against 75 of the nation's top student films at the CMF competition, known as the nation's largest student film festival.

Playing for Keeps

Two BSU athletic teams have new members, and each is guaranteed to give her team a boost.[br][br]The special roster additions come by way of Team IMPACT, a new non-profit organization based in Quincy that brings together college sports teams and kids with life-threatening diseases.[br][br]Wednesday, the field hockey team welcomed 8-year old [b]Nevaeh[/b] at a special Draft Day event held in the Adrian Tinsley Center.

Good Business

The Center for Entrepreneurship Studies has announced that [b]Craig Rondeau[/b], '11, of Marshfield, is the winner of its fourth annual Business Plan Competition. [br][br]His winning entry was for Business Station, a retail-based company that provides services to businesses for a monthly fee, including services such as printing, faxing, scanning etc.[br][br]"Our members will have the services of a full-scale office for a much more affordable price than a standard office," Mr. Rondeau said.

[b]Jim Quinn[/b] has emptied the file cabinets. He's helped haul the 30 boxes, and stored 20 more in his garage. [br][br]And this is only the beginning.[br][br]The work is in connection to the Maxwell Library's recent acquisition of the archives of the New England Theater Conference, a 60-year-old organization that was founded by iconic drama critic and educator Elliot Norton. BSU is now home to this vital piece of regional art history and a treasure trove of material for future researchers.

[h]BARTLETT COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS[/h][br][br]Twins [b]Adam[/b] and [b]Allen Schaen[/b] have been featured in [i]Bridgewater[/i] magazine after each excelled in his research pursuits. We also reported at that time that Adam had been accepted in to the Ph.D. program at the University of Minnesota. Now comes the news that Allen will complete this symmetrical picture: He's been accepted to a similar program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. [br][br][b]Dr.

Clean Up Time

A group of Bridgewater State students from the Student Education Association for Massachusetts, along with Professor [b]Nancy Witherell[/b] of the elementary and early education department, spent a day at the Mulcahey Elementary School in Taunton painting and revitalizing the exterior of the facility.[br][br]The volunteer project included the painting of a so-called "peaceful playground" and general landscaping around the school.

Cultural Insight

A series of more than a dozen events held to boost awareness of issues, cultures and traditions in the Middle East culminated with BSU's third annual Passover Celebration and Seder held in the Campus Center and attended by campus and community members.[br][br]This program and those preceding it over the past two weeks -- called the Middle East Educational Weeks -- were sponsored by the university's Center for Middle East Studies (CMES) and the Center for Multicultural Affairs (CMA), with support from BSU's U.S.

National Recognition

The Washington Center, the largest independent, nonprofit academic internship program in the country, has named Bridgewater State as its Public University of the Year for 2012.[br][br][b]Dr. George Serra[/b], professor of political science, said this was "significant recognition" from a highly respected institution.[br][br]Since spring 1998, more than 75 BSU students have experienced the singular opportunities available through the center. The program provides internships across D.C., as well as abroad, for students of all majors.

In his keynote address for GLBTA Pride Center's annual Rainbow Luncheon, [b]Keith Boykin[/b], activist and editor of [i]The Daily Voice[/i], discussed his life, gay rights issues and ways to initiate change. [br][br]Mr. Boykin said all societal issues, such as homophobia, racism and sexism, are rooted in fear, which teaches people to hate and oppress certain populations and hide their own identities.
