Students have little trouble finding parking spots these days thanks to BSU's recently constructed parking garage in East Campus, which provides additional parking for 840 vehicles.[br][br]The garage, located in the Lower Great Hill lot, includes an enclosed elevator/stair tower, entrance from Great Hill Drive, security camera system and a system for fire protection. [br][br]The construction project, which began last May, is one of several recent campus construction projects, including a new 500-bed residence hall, sited between Crimson Hall and the new parking garage.

The next group of Shea Scholars will be heading East in June for three weeks of research.[br][br]Art majors [b]Andrew Laverty[/b], '13, of Plymouth, and [b]Jing Ting Long[/b], '13, of Boston, along with English major [b]Ashley Young[/b], '13, of Rehoboth, will depart June 18.[br][br][b]Dr. Minae Savas[/b], assistant professor of Japanese studies in the Department of Foreign Languages, will lead the undergraduate research abroad trip and mentor the students.

Queen of the Hill

Social work major [b]Diana DeMont[/b] spent a few days in Washington, D.C., participating in the prestigious Posters on the Hill event. She saw the sights, shared her research, and even got to do a little impromptu lobbying, of a sort.[br][br]Ms. DeMont met with U.S. Sen.

Five students presented their work at the seventh-annual Undergraduate Research Symposium presented by the Anthropology Department. Graduating seniors and others were also honored.[br][br]"The event is designed to showcase the work our students have been doing all year and to allow newer anthropology majors to consider directions they may want to go," said [b]Dr.

Marisa DeFranco, Massachusetts democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, joined [b]Dr. Mark Kemper[/b], associate professor of political science, in a Q and A session on campus, where she discussed her career, and domestic and foreign issues. [br][br]If elected, Ms. DeFranco, a Salem immigration attorney, said she would tackle job creation to stabilize the U.S. economy. Her short-term plan is to invest 100 billion dollars over two years to create two million green jobs, something she said the nation can afford.

Taking Charge

A group of male students learned how to become successful leaders on campus and beyond during a weekend retreat led by faculty and staff facilitators at Camp Wingate-Kirkland in Yarmouth Port.[br][br]The 36 students engaged with facilitators in leadership training sessions and activities aimed at helping the young men prepare for leadership roles in their groups, on campus and in their communities. Activity topics at the retreat ranged from individual and group leadership to community building and diversity issues. The students learned valuable group and interpersonal communication skills.

Critical Mass

The sixth annual Undergraduate Literature Conference featured students from Bridgewater State and Stonehill College presenting their work on a wide variety of topics. From consumption, to religion and politics in Iceland and England, to creative writing, the day-long event showcased the scholarship of more than two dozen undergraduates.[br][br]"The students are doing extremely well," said [b]Dr. Molly Robey[/b], assistant professor of English and one of the organizers, during a break in the event.

Flying High

[b]David Price[/b], associate dean of aviation, was elected to the board of directors for the Aero Club of New England. [br][br]"This is a very important role for me to have on behalf of Bridgewater State University," Mr. Price said. "Because of BSU's involvement with ACONE, the organization has increased its involvement with our students over the past year, helping some find excellent jobs after graduation."[br][br]The Aero Club of New England was created in 1902, more than a year before the Wright Brother's first flight.

Hollywood Bound

In a packed campus center ballroom, BSU's fifth annual Campus MovieFest Finale premiered sixteen of the university's tops student films, three of which will go on to represent the university at CMF Hollywood in June. [br][br]The three winning films off to Hollywood are: "I Love You, Pizza" (Best Comedy), "The Frame" (Best Drama), and "Heretic" (Best Picture). Those films will compete against 75 of the nation's top student films at the CMF competition, known as the nation's largest student film festival.
