The Student Conduct Office responds to
reported violations of the BSU Student Code of Conduct and works to
ensure that the campus environment is conducive to teaching and learning
by protecting the rights of all students and assisting them to accept
their responsibilities.
Conduct Board members are part of
the Office of Student Conduct’s response to reported violations of the
Code of Conduct. The Conduct Board Hearings are formal proceedings where
a board of students, faculty and/or administrative staff meets with
relevant parties, to review the details of the alleged violation and
determine whether or not a violation of the Student Code of Conduct has
occurred. If the board finds that a student was in violation of the
Student Code of Conduct the board makes a sanction recommendation to the
Director of Student Conduct or designee.
The
Appellate Board is made up of
students, faculty and/or administrative staff who review the written
appeal of students found responsible for Code of Conduct violations and
believe that there are grounds to appeal the decision, according to
policy. The board reviews the appeal, without knowing the names of the
individuals involved, and determine whether there are grounds for an
appeal. If so, they make a recommendation to the Assistant Vice
President for Student Affairs or designee. In cases involving University
Expulsion the Vice President of Student Affairs, or designee, receives
the board’s recommendation.
The commitment to
serve on the boards includes attending a 3 hour training session and
being available to serve on hearing boards and attend periodic practice
sessions throughout the year as your schedule permits.
