ESL Tutoring

ESL peer tutors work within the Second Language Services at the Academic Achievement Center to provide language support to BSC students for whom English as a Second Language.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in the development of fluency, accuracy, and clarity of students' writing and spoken language through drafting, revising, and reviewing;
  • Offer feedback on basic organizational and sentence-level errors in students' writing;
  • Model effective communication practices in English in speech and writing;
  • Foster effective approaches to avoiding plagiarism in writing and in oral assignments;
  • Keep an appointment book and file session forms documenting students' progress,
  • Meet with the Program's supervisor on a weekly basis;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a commitment to working with ESL students, excellent communication skills, superior knowledge of English and English grammar, deep respect for diversity, and familiarity with American academic culture. Knowledge of foreign languages is not required. Required GPA 2.70. Preferred GPA 3.0 or higher.
