Spencer Aston is a freelance trumpet player, conductor, and teacher in the Boston metropolitan area. He currently holds faculty positions at Bridgewater State University, the University of Massachusetts-Boston, the Longy School of Music and the Powers School of Music. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Spencer performs regularly across New England at various schools, churches, and concert venues. He is a founding member of the Fenway Quintet and has been seen in concert with the New Mexico Symphony, San Juan Symphony, Cape Cod Symphony, Nashua Symphony, and many others. Spencer is currently the principal cornetist with the New England Brass Band. During the summer, Spencer has performed in residence at the Ohio Light Opera in Wooster, OH for their 2009 and 2010 seasons.
As a soloist, Dr. Aston has presented concerts and recitals on three continents including tours of Mexico, China, and most recently the 2010 US National Tour of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. He was featured soloist with the New England Brass Band in December of 2007 and the Sandia High School Wind Ensemble in February of 2006. Spencer was a member of the Boston University Trumpet Ensemble, placing 2nd at the 2007 National Trumpet Competition in Fairfax, VA.
Dr. Aston grew up in Lake Orion, MI and began playing the trumpet at age ten. His teachers have included Terry Everson, Alan Siebert, Philip Collins, and Jeff Piper.
Spencer is an avid runner. He has also recently completed his SCUBA diver certification and looks forward to many new underwater adventures.
