BSU International students living in Massachusetts are eligible to apply for a Massachusetts driver's license or state ID. F-1 and J-1 non-​immigrant visa holders must submit valid, verifiable immigration documents as well as proof that they have been granted a legal stay in the U.S. for at least 12 months. The license or ID will expire when the legal stay is over. 

Effective October 1, 2020, all domestic air travel will require a valid passport or Massachusetts driver's license/state ID that meets requirements set by the REAL ID Act. To apply for a Massachusetts driver's license/state ID that meets the REAL ID requirements, students will need the following documents. 

  • Passport valid for at least the next 6 months
  • Visa
  • Most recent I-94
  • Most recent I-20/DS-2019 valid for at least 12 months
  • Social Security Number card or a Social Security Number denial notice issued by the Social Security Administration dated within the last 60 days
  • Two documents that establish proof or Massachusetts Residency (for a complete list of acceptable documents please visit, ​https://www.mass.gov/doc/acceptable-forms-of-identification/download)
