What is renters insurance?

Renters insurance is a policy purchased through an insurance company that protects your personal belonging in case of damage, loss or theft. For instance, an insurance company may reimburse you for the loss of your laptop if it was stolen from your off-campus apartment of on campus residence hall. Each policy's coverage is different, be sure you fully understand the policy coverage before you sign up.

Do I need renters insurance?

It is up to you. Consider the likelihood of something happening to your personal belongings and if you have the funds to replace them should something happen. It is your choice.

How do I choose my renters insurance?

When someone chooses renters insurance they typically consider: the monthly premium, the coverage, the deductible, and the length of the term. We highly recommend: you conduct your own research, compare different companies, and find the policy that is best for you. Below we have included a few options. ISSS and BSU do not endorse these companies or make any recommendations.
