Awards & Scholarships

Barbara LaFrance Scholarship

The Barbara Shakespeare LaFrance Scholarship will be awarded to a music major (preferably a pianist) who is from Massachusetts. The successful applicant will be a sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and will be selected through audition. Should no music major from Massachusetts satisfy the requirements the scholarship will be open to 1) a pianist from any state or country; then 2) any music major, vocal or instrumental, from any state or country. If, there is not a candidate with a major in music, an exceptional student with a minor in music and who meets other criteria, may be considered.

Elsie P. Johnson Music Fund

This fund was established through a bequest from the estate of Elsie P. Johnson. This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior with a major in music, preferably with a concentration in music education. Acceptance will be based on an essay (topic is the philosophy of teaching music), an audition, and overall GPA.

Frieda Rand Music Endowment Fund for Performance Studies

Income from the Frieda Rand Music Endowment Fund is used to benefit music majors with their performance studies fees for private lessons as required by the Music Department. The students who wish to receive an award must be matriculated and are required to audition; all vocalists and instrumentalists are eligible to audition; a student may be full time or part time, and may be a repeat recipient. Preference will be given to a student(s) who demonstrates financial need.
